PC Overclocks Thread
-
This is my first time messing around with overclocking so I figured I would make a thread and see if any of you PC gamers are like me and like to mess with their stuff.

Feel free to share your tips and tricks with me if you have any.
System Specs:
-Core i7-860 2.8Ghz Processor OC to 3.1Ghz
-ASUS P7P55D Pro Motherboard
-4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 RAM
-Diamond ATI Radeon 4890 OC to 925MhzCPU-Z Screenshot:
I want to go higher (around 3.8Ghz) but I definitely need better cooling. Running stock CPU cooler atm.

I have seen screenshots of people getting the Core i5 to 4.2Ghz stable on air (non-stock cooler) so I'm pretty optimistic with what I can do. He is using the same mobo as me also.
Found the screenshot…
nice. I think i might try to OC my shit before my upgrades come in. always a good time to OC when you have shit you don't need to have to play games.

My BIOS Resets After I Put It @ 2.93GHz -.- and Then It Goes Back To 2.66GHz Which Is The Stock Clock
.. I Can Only Run It @ 2.83 Stable… Anything OVer That And It Resets.Maybe Its My Mobo's BIOS That's Old or Something...

Well there are other things you need to change in order to go higher such as voltage, etc. Your CPU needs more power to go higher than 2.83, and this will generate more heat and may cook your cpu without proper cooling. I would search the internet to find the correct voltage and bus speed for your processor before messing with it though. There's got to be someone overclocking the same processor as you.
The safest way to go about doing this would be to lower your RAM frequency to 667Mhz. This will make sure you don't overclock your RAM. Also, I wouldn't raise the voltage over 1.4 or so without replacing the CPU cooler. It will just get too hot. Set your bus speed where you have it now and raise the voltage a little. Then run a few programs to make sure it doesn't crash. Then raise the bus speed. Run programs. Etc.
Also, don't blame me if your CPU fries in the process…lol.

Sorry bro. Did he have a computer? If he did you should totally get it and overclock it.

Got the GPU stable at 925Mhz by downgrading the drivers.
Used ATI Catalyst Overdrive to OC. (So simple for ATI users.)Got random BSOD's with the latest drivers from AMD so idk what that's all about…seems to work fine now.
Specs:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/cshq8/As for the CPU, I should be getting my new job soon so I can afford this cooler. (or something like it)

Then we will see how high I can push this thing.
