Dead PS3 - tinpixel VS Tesco
-
Hey all,
My PS3 got the dreaded red/yellow light of death a couple of nights back
It's well out of warranty but knowing about the 'Sale of Goods Act' (SOGA) here in the UK I figured I'd take advantage of it to see if I am entitled to a free repair/replacement or refund - I might get nothing, but I might save a small fortune, who knows? I can't afford to replace it right now (holiday next month) so have the time to wait.…and so begins my battle with Tesco.
The SOGA basically says that all good should be durable, free from defects upon purchase, be fit for purpose and last a 'reasonable' length of time, even if the warranty is only 1yr or whatever. A £300 machine designed as a centrepiece to a family's entertainment should last a while and also it shouldn't have an inherant problem where the soldered CPU 'melts' off the motherboard (the cause of 90% of YLOD [apparently]). That's my argument, and as my purchase contract is with Tesco they have to sort it, not Sony.
For hawkes - Here's a video.

ROUND 1
Just rang Tesco - after speaking to a total of 6 people telling me they had nothing to do with it and I have to ring Sony, I managed to speak to someone that was not a total bellend. Granted he did recommend getting in touch with Sony but I told him that it was not up to Sony, quoted my knowledge of the SOGA and insisted they do something. Whilst his tiny mind couldn't quite comprehend such a Law ("Then why do they sell extended warranties?") - he knew that arguing me was a waste of his time.
Result - I'm getting an OTM (over 12 months) form to fill in.
Will let you know how I get on.
