Dell, Acer or HP

HP if your stylish.
I've got an Intel-based HP/Compaq (business) desktop and it's still the fastest, quietest and most stable PC I've used, even after 2 years.
Mrs Tinpixel has got an AMD-based HP touchscreen laptop - I'm not so keen on it but it's ok when I have to use it (handles photoshop etc ok). This replaced a business HP laptop which was awesome till I broke it - it spawned my love for HP
Prior to that always built PC's - would never bother again, not worth the time or hassle.
One thing's for sure - absolutely NEVER go for the entry level processors (eg celeron, sempron etc.) They're false economy and you'll ALWAYS regret it. Also, steer clear of the Vista. It is evil.
Good luck!

My ex-girlfriend's family all has HP's/Compaq's and they all suck the big one. Even her brother's quad-core gaming laptop. I have had to fix or replace something in almost every one of them in the year and a half I was dating her.
I have also had 2 HP's fail in my family…so I don't think I would buy one again.
(And when they fail usually you have to buy some outrageously overpriced hardware to fix them because standard stuff won't work in them.)
Just my 2c/p.
