I'm finally moving on and will expand my gaming experience by getting some sort of gaming computer. As I don't have much knowledge about this kind of stuff, I was hoping for some tips from you guys. Currently I don't have anything. That means I need at least a keyboard, mouse, screen and of course…a computer.
The cost is not limited because I'm getting this for my 20th birthday.

    Bring it on, geeks!

Also about costs what are you thinking about spending?

Unlimited costs is too easy, but if you say 1k or 2k maybe I will be able to look at things or perhaps get something build with the soec for the money 😄

I was just looking at some computers at a norwegian website with my mom that have absolutely no idea about this. My dad works with computers, so he might know something, but not much about gaming specs.
The prizes on those computers were only at 11.000 NOK (£1.200, $1.900), but I am willing to get something even better. And I also have about 50.000 NOK (£5.400, $8.660) to add if the prize is getting too high for a present from my parents and brother 😛

It will be cool to finally play more with you guys too 🙂

I might need something to record with too 😕

There are various programs to record game while you are playing on the PC, the most used one is F.R.A.P.S.

Get an Intel i7 Sandy Bridge 2.8Ghz or better.

Get a 2GB Nvidia or 2GB AMD video card or better.

That's about all you need for gaming.

                My specs currently:

                Processor: Intel Core-i7 860 2.8Ghz (3.3Ghz currently)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper-212 Evo
RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
Video Card: XFX Radeon 6970 2GB (AMD Card)
                Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D Pro
                Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout
                Monitors: 3x Acer 22" 1680x1050
                Keyboard: Razer Black Widow Ultimate
                Mouse: Razer Deathadder

Hope I'm not forgetting anything lol.

Ok, I've got some help with a friend to put together a great computer…

Cabinet: Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced
                  Processor: AMD FX-8150 8-Core Processor
                  Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0, Socket-AM3+
CPU cooler: Corsair H40 Hydro Series CPU Cooler
                  RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB CL9
Video card: Gainward GeForce GTX 660Ti 2GB PhysX
Hard drive SSD: Crucial m4 SSD 2.5" 128GB
Hard drive: Western Digital® Desktop Green 1TB
Keyboard: Microsoft OEM Wired Desktop 400
                  Mouse: Razer Deathadder Respawn
                  Monitor: BenQ 24" LCD G2450HM 1920x1080
Headset: SteelSeries Siberia v2 Full-size Headset

With some other stuff, like speakers, OS, wireless network and Portal 2 (for free), this ends on 13.683 NOK (£1.484,50 ,$2.377,75). I might get it a little bit cheaper though

Weird choice with Monitor and Keyboard but apart from that everything looks awesome, You'll have to let me know if that AMD Proc is any good, there is a cycle in whats that best, I7's have been the best for a while, but it often swiches between Intel and AMD who have the better stuff 🙂

Have you got everything up and running?

Hate to tell you after you ordered it but the quad core i7's are faster than the 8-core AMDs…
