New 360 hardware failure "E74" …. LMAO!

but tbh, i don't play it much.. It does suck and i wish i never got it.. Rather play my ps3 [WHEN I ACTUALLY CAN AFFORD A NEW GAME] instead.

More problems for microsoft this was on a gaming site, lol sounds like microsoft trying to get away without refunding for there cheap parts in there consoles.
don't get me wrong I like the xbox 360 but geez refund the people for your hardware problems.

When Microsoft announced they were extending their warranty for Xbox 360s that received a E74 error, I was curious how different the code was from the red ring of death. Not very, it turns out.

I contacted the company earlier this week to find out what a E74 code meant and whether it was possibly just a rebranded red ring of death.

Here's what they told me:

Once a repair is made and a person gets their 360 back, does the clock reset for the extended warranty in regards to this error?
No. The same terms of the three-year warranty associated with three flashing red lights error apply.

We reported in 2007 that Microsoft was reworking their 360s to no longer give the red rings to report certain errors because people were sometimes misconstruing them. Is that the case?
No, that is not accurate.

Can a 360 still get a red ring error, aka the red ring of death?
Yes, the three flashing red lights error message can still be present on the console in the event of certain general hardware failures. We have made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue. The majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles have a terrific experience from their first day, and continue to, day in and day out.

Is the e74 code a replacement for the red ring of death?
No. The E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. This issue remains relatively narrow in scope and a very small percentage of our customers have contacted us about this issue. Again, we have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue.

But wait. What's with the contradiction? How can an E74 error message apply to the same hardware failures that are associated with a red ring if they're not the same?

"In some cases there is no difference. As we said, the E74 error message and three flashing red lights can in some cases indicate the same general hardware failure. However, it is not the same failure mode in all cases and there is no single root cause for these malfunctions."

So it sounds like there is an overlap between hardware issues that cause the E74 message and hardware issues that cause the red ring of death.

i think it hade every oppertunity to be a good system. but they rushed it. they were more worried about being the first one. rather than the one with the best quality. however i guess they could just say screw u and not fix the problems with longer warranties. basically thier crappy work and rushing things in the begining is costing them now.

• Xbox
• PS3

JAP:

• PS3 (1st place last 2 months, uesd to be 2nd)
• Wii
• Xbox (Always been last place in Japan except 2 months last year here it took 2nd.)

EU:

• Wii
• PS3 (PS3 is always 2nd Europe, only country its not is UK…)
• Xbox

We are surrounded by American media telling us that Xbox is the best here in UK because we Bum USA.

In the USA is rare that people have Ps3s because there media rams Microsoft down there throat, its a shame really.

Ok soo You have the money to buy the best quality, i have the money to buy it, but lot's of people don't. I don't know about UK or US but in germany you can get x360 for 150€ brand new with game, and ps3 is around 400€ plus one game. That's not 50£ but a bit more. Some people don't want to put so much money in entertainment so they choose something cheaper.
I don't know how much money ur getting in your job but make a note that not everyone can get everything that's the best out there.

I work in a company like that. Ryanair everyone knows it, people either love us or hates us, and you know what ? Nobody gives a shit cause people still fly with us. Why? Cause it's cheap, it doesn't matter that you have to pay lots of cash for bags or check in or other shit, it doesn't matter that you even have to pay for water on board, and some crew treat you like shit. People fly cause it's cheap and they don't want to pay 300€ for flight with British Airways or Lufthansa but they pay 30€ for flight with us.
It's the same with Windows, Xbox 360 and whole Microsoft, there are so many bad things about this company and still 80% of people have Windows at home, they have so many x360 and other stuff. It's all about marketing and the rest comes after.

I never said there are no people who enjoy spending more money on flights. I fly with other airlines as well although i have free tickets with Ryanair. It's the same with x360 and ps3 nobody forces you too buy either. You always have a choice.

Linux is out of questions as it's completely free.

Another thing is piracy. Windows is easily pirated, and mac is working almost only on designed pc/laptops although it's changing since they implemented Intel machines. (before they had motorola processors)
