Exactly. A modem interprets the data flow and allows your computer to connect to the internet. A router "routes" the signal to multiple locations and allows the data flow to be split multiple times and interpreted separately. You need both…that's pretty much it.

I got 4gb ram on mine…lol, I taught I had 2gb Just buy a new computer and check those standars I got a HP Pavilion dv6, not too expensive, and it's pretty good

@Bronco: Cheapest "gaming" laptop on newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115805 If you want it for gaming, you'll need a dedicated video card. This laptop has one, but it isn't the greatest. For a more robust card you'll need to spend more money. (Props to me for making this post while drunk and not misspelling anything.) Not bad.
